Central Sweden » Norbergs Tourist Office

The history of Norberg is dominated by the iron and mining industries. Settlement dates back to the 12th century, and it was Sweden's most important source of iron ore from the 14th century onwards. This is where Engelbrekt, a freedom fighter, gathered his supporters and started an uprising in 1434. The mines and foundries have made their mark on the town and there are many relics of the era of the iron production. In the Middle Ages, Norberg became a hub and a significant market town in the Bergslagen region.

There are wooden houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries along the Norberg river. Norberg is now a pleasant and friendly little town, with many small businesses and plenty of beautiful places to visit.

It has a rural setting with lots of opportunities for hiking in the summer and skiing, both downhill and cross-country, in the winter.

Welcome!
