Laholm is proud to have Swedens´s longest beach where you can swim in the salt water or rest comfortably in the sand dunes. Hallandsåsen is to the south with its ski slopes and secretive beech forests. In the idyllic small town of Laholm you can follow the winding cobbled streets to the district of Gamleby, which has its roots in the Middle Ages. Laholm is Halland’s oldest town and its Danish influences are still noticeable. Visit the ruins of the castle of Lagaholm, a former border stronghold between Sweden and Denmark, near the power station or Skottorps Castle where the wedding between King Karl XI and the Danish Ulrika Eleonora took place in 1860. Other places of interest include the Nordic region’s only Museum of Drawing in Laholm and the art gallery in Hishult with its modern art and a Zen Buddhist garden. Expectant salmon fishermen line the banks of the river Lagan, which runs through the town centre, as the steamboat S/S Lagaholm chugs its way past them on its way out to sea. Laholm’s wonderfully varied countryside, its nearness to the sea and lakes, its magical forests and open landscapes make it a fantastic place to visit. There are many farm shops in Laholm where you can buy delicious local produce, and some of them have restaurants where you can enjoy the farm’s produce in the midst of the beautiful countryside.
