In the basement of the Mineral Information Office in Malå, Västerbotten County, a new meeting place is under development. The idea has been initiated by the non-profit organization Georange and the working title is Georange Public Site (GPS). The objective of this GeoExpo is to become a knowledgebase for the general public about the mining and mineral sector as well as to be a natural meeting place for people in the business and to show how this can contribute to sustainable development.
GeoExpo will try to answer questions like: What happens when someone finds an occurrence of metal or mineral worth mining? How do the ores of the Swedish mines look like? Which minerals do we need in our daily life? Why are there environmental problems connected to mining and what can we do about them? The GeoExpo will include a collection of minerals, a seminar room, exhibitions and several funny and thoughtful “try to do”-things. Our plan is to open GeoExpo in December 2010.
