Southern Sweden » Gothenburg

Close to heart. Close to everything.

Everything is close at hand in Gothenburg - the sea, the fascinating urban culture, the culinary experiences and the well-known attractions. The range of shopping and entertainment makes Gothenburg feel like a big city, but when it comes to atmosphere and warmth, the city has its own unique charm.

City by the sea
The sea has always dominated the city – and its cuisine, trade, leisure and recreation. At the end of the main boulevard Avenyn, you will see the wide river opening up into the sea beyond. The emerging waterfront area is one of the most exciting places in Gothenburg right now with new restaurants, attractions and the Opera House.

A culinary experience
High-quality ingredients, award-winning chefs and an ecological mindset are some of the reasons why Gothenburg is one of Europe’s top culinary destinations. The city hosts five restaurants with Michelin Stars: 28+, Basement, Fond, Kock & Vin and Sjömagasinet. But nothing characterizes Gothenburg’s food heritage better than the genuine Feskekôrka Fish Market or Sweden’s largest fish auction down in the harbour - where the activity never stops.

Five hundred shops within five minutes walking distance
Gothenburg is a lively shopping city, offering an exiting mixture of modern warehouses and independent shops, galleries and arcades. Nordstan is Sweden’s leading shopping centre and the start of a three kilometre-long shopping area. The main boulevard Avenyn play host to exclusive fashion shops and art galleries. Magasinsgatan and the nearby Linné district, are bohemian yet trendy areas offering a fascinating mix of shops and arty establishments.

Attractions
Liseberg Amusement Park is the most popular tourist attraction in Sweden, attracting three million visitors annually. The Science Discovery Centre Universeum combines science, technology and adventure with big aquariums, a rain forest and plenty of hands‑on experiments. The Museum of World Culture is Gothenburg’s newest museum – five contemporary exhibitions on different themes. The modern award-winning building also houses the “Spanish steps”, which have become a popular meeting place.
